When to move to a lap belt in HBB?

I have a 43” tall 5 year old who weighs 51 pounds. I purchased the Britax Grow With Me HBB so that we could extend the time he was in a 5 point harness. He has grown immensely in the past year (going from a 4T to a size 8!), and unfortunately, his crotch is getting quite squished by the buckle with the 5 point. We are in the USA, and I know it’s ultimately up to us when to switch to the lap belt, but is there anything else that can be done to extend his time in the 5 point? This seat has only one slot for the buckle on the bottom, so unfortunately I cannot move it to another position.

Hi, can you clarify if you mean a lap only belt or a lap-shoulder belt?
