Torso length?

Would you consider approx. 12" a long torso for a 7 month old? Is there a way to find out average torso lengths for different age groups?

12" sounds on the longer side of average, but I could be wrong. What size onesies does your baby wear? My baby is almost 9 months and wears 12-18 month or 18 month onesies/sleepers, but only 6-12 month pants, so I know she has a longer torso.

DD3 (4 months) has a super long torso. I haven't measured her, but she is over the top slots of our snugride (10.5"). She's got to have at least an 11" torso.

She's in 9 and 12 month clothes (one piece rompers) because anything smaller won't snap in the crotch.

LOL.... well, I did my best to keep him still while we measured, but he's just figuring out how to move himself around ala butt scoot, and he kept leaning forward while I was measuring, so it's probably closer to 11.5". As for sizes, it depends on the brand. I bought 9-month Carter's onesies just a month ago, and they are a tight fit already. He is wearing some other Carter's one-piece footed things that are 9-month and long in the legs still, but fit just right at the crotch part, but then others fit him fine in the leg. Doesn't help that I buy his clothes at outlets mostly, so they are all probably a little off from true-sizing...

The top slots of the SS1 I think are about 12". Ilana was right at there at 16 mos or so. Olivia is just on the 2nd slots so she's about 10" at 10.5 mos.

I think it depends a lot on the overall size of the child as well-- a very large, off the charts baby with a short-to-average torso may get to a given mark before a short kid with a long torso, KWIM?

My way to figure out if a kid is overall big, or has a long torso, or both, is clothing size. What size shirt/pants does he wear? Kids who need bigger sized pants than shirts because of their leg length tend to be long-legged and/or short torsoed; kids who wear the same size shirt and pants tend to be average-proportioned even if they are tall or short; kids who wear a bigger shirt size than pants size in order to cover their belly tend to be long-torsoed/short legged.

It sounds to me like its a little bit long, my DS is 20 months old an has a 12" torso, but he is shorter and stockier. (32" tall and 27 lbs) A friend of mine has a DD who is 14 months and she is already taller than him.
