ok, so I finally got my licence, and as a gift, DH got my car (88 Taurus) insured and registered that day he went to ford, and asked about tether anchors, with all the information from my post (tether anchors in an 87 Taurus) Apparently, Ford issued a service bulliten a couple months ago, to stop the program. Now DH asked how much it would be for the ford anchors, Free, with installation ($100)

so we're taking his car to the city today to buy anchors for my car. I can't wait to be free of that 2 door.

Interesting. I haven't heard anything about Ford stopping this program.

Can you just get the anchors and install them yourself? I haven't done this (need to for my 1998 Escort though) but I know others have, with little problem. Not sure how easy they would be to install in a 1988 Taurus.

where are you in Alberta? My hubby is a mechanic. I can chat with him and see if he can hook you up. That really sucks, if its true!

I would love to know the answer to this one as we're considering purchasing a 98 Escort. I haven't seen it yet so don't know if it has any kind of rear tether bolt at all, but DD is fast aproaching the RF limit of her Marathon (if she hasn't hit it already) and will need to be turned very soon.

My mom also needs to have a bolt installed in her 99 Civic for when the time comes to turn the True Fit we have in her car. Any tips on that?

I just got my tether anchors last week. I have a '98 Mercury Sable. I'm in the US, though. First they said that they knew nothing about it, that they'd look into it and call me back. 3 weeks went by, so I went back in. The guy I originally spoke to said that the parts manager said that the program wasn't in effect, but I insisted, told them that the 2007 LATCH manual states they still do it, so we both went to talk to the parts manager, he asked the guy if he called the person that he had given him the phone #. Guy was like, no, I didn't, so he proceeded to try to call her, said he got no answer. I had to stand there and insist that I know that they will get reimbursed, and that my manual also states they are no charge, and then magically he found someone that knew all about it and I got 2 the next day. You just have to be very assertive with them. I wasn't going to leave until they did it or showed me proof that I had to pay.

Yes you really do have to be assertive. When I got my Chevy Lumina done I had to go to corporate after a month of arguing with 4 dealers. But they only gave me one for the Lumina and will now install another for 50 bucks. As for the Sable, The Ford dealer was very helpful and installed two, wrong the first time, but fixed it.

'98 Escort and '99 Civic are already pre-drilled in all rear seating positions. So you can either add the anchors yourself by getting parts from the dealerships or Ford will install them for free, and Honda will likely install one (or more) for free. If you don't get the answer you want from the first dealership, call more. It takes about 5 minutes for them to install an anchor that's pre-drilled. Even if you're charged labour, it's the minimum rate of .25 of an hour.

With pre-drilled holes, installing a tether is literally, as easy as screwing in a bolt. You need a torque wrench. ($15 dollars for a cheap one, but I bet if you ask around you'll find someone in your family has one) It takes about 5 minutes total to install.

Very odd. Why would Ford stop a program they get reimbursed for by the gov? :scratcheshead:

Try another dealership if you can.
