I imported a carseat, and it is certified as compliant?

Discuss.

I personally have imported a carseat from the US, and realized that it was re-certified as compliant.

This is factual, and I have documentation stating that the seat complies to Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety regulations.

How did I do this? And does this mean said seat is really compliant?

It's not that late but I'm confused :)

Are we discussing a post you got somewhere of someone claiming he/she has a re-certified US seat? Or are we discussing how YOU did it and now in possession of such seat?

If it's you, I want to know details. If it's someone else, I think... Oh well, reserving my judgement until I hear more :)

If Nicole is referring to herself, then I assume she's talking about the Regent in one of her siggy pics.

Did you somehow have Transport Canada review your seat? Did they do it when you imported it, without you realizing it?

(Edited to add: Hope no one minds a non-Canadien chiming in.)

I don't mind a non-Canadian chiming in as long as you spell it right. :p

(Yes, I'm totally razzing you  )

What kind of documentation? Does the seat bear a CMVSS 213/213.1 or 213.2 sticker?

How old is the seat?

eta: And define the wording of compliant. ;)

The only entity able to certify a seat compliant with CMVSS 213, 213.1, or 213.2 standards is the manufacturer, so if you brought the seat across the border and it is certified as compliant, it had to have been certified before bringing it across. Or else had a national safety mark sticker placed on it after the fact - the question being who issued the NSM and if he/she/they were authorized to do so...

Or did you discover that one of your Canadian seats was actually a US seat re-labeled with CDN stickers at some point before you got it? If you still had your Radian I'd be placing bets on it having had US stickers covered up with CDN ones, but I have it at the present. :p

The exact statement is that it "conforms to all applicable standards prescribed under the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safefty regulations in effect on the date of manufacture."

This is my seat, and it is not a Regent.

I realized that this had happened, sort of by default. It is certified as compliant, per this documentation. There are some flaws in this compliance, as Trudy has realized I am sure.

The seat was imported. It was legally imported per government requirements.

HINT: This seat is not dynamically tested for compliance. {Trudy and Tam, shut it :p}

I'm going to take a stab at it. :p

Is it a seat you had replaced by a manufacturer (like for a warranty issue, for example?) Did the manufacturer send you a seat from their U.S. stock and just slap some Canadian documentation on it (since they know it's the same seat as they sell here, even if they don't want to admit that publicly.)

That's my theory.

It was available in 2003, and is currently available and in production. It was, however, recalled in Canada. This is the original seat, not a replacement.

So not dynamically tested.. (I'll give that away now for others, that means it's a booster.)
..Was recalled..
..Currently available, and was available in 2003..
My version WAS NOT recalled..which means it was recalled for something Canadian-specific, and we know (because it's a booster) it was documentation related..

Wow! I am so lost!
but....
My guess on the cause of the recall was lack of French language in the manual.

Parkways aren't in production, Montereys weren't in production in 2003, its not a laptop...what other booster do you have??
Is it a turbo? Do you HAVE a turbo?

I have no idea, but whatever happened to that Regent you had?
