best padded infant seat (update)

Our newbie foster baby is really floppy. He/she has no head control at all. What bucket would be best to keep him/her in neutral? Guessing the weight to be around 8 ish lbs.

Tried him/her a bunch of seats and the key fit was the winner. He/she just looked right in it. The Britax was runner up but the key fit just molded to him/her better. I can see what all the fuss is about now.
Thanks so much everyone.

Anything reclined will keep the chin off of the chest. Side to side isn't a problem.

Do you have something already and you're looking for something new?

I haven't tried a ton of car seats out to give advice but my son was having this issue in his Dorel Designer 22 infant seat. Even with receiving blankets rolled up, his head would still fall fully to the side, especially when sleeping. At 2 months old we had to replace his car seat (not for that reason) and I bought a First Years/Lamaze Via which has infant padding in it. His head stays nice and straight and well supported in this seat even when asleep. The only downfall to the seat is that it is really heavy for hauling around.

if you like the safe seat, its newest generation, the snugride 35, comes with a very nice body support pillow. look for the newest model with the weight rating for 4-35lbs. those all have the full body pillow (its intended for low birth weight infants 5lbs and under). if your childs shoulders are below the bottom slots you can use the full set up.... but even if they arent the remaining support pillow is very supportive.

Since you're in the market for a new seat, I'd grab a Chicco KeyFit 30. It's such a nice seat for itty bitties, and it's easy to use and install.

p.s. If baby's head keeps favoring one side, please have him checked for Torticolis. :)

For preemies I'd look at the Graco Snugride 30, Safety 1st onBoard 35, Chicco Keyfit 30, Britax Chaperone with low weight insert, Combi Coccoro, Maxi Cosi Pria.

My daughter wasn't a preemie, but she was SGA at 4 lbs 14 oz. The Chicco Keyfit fit her very well, and the infant head insert helped a lot with side flopping when she slept. I really like it as an infant seat.

Thanks this is not torticolis. I have had many cases of that here. I have not had a baby this floppy since my daughter came that has C.P. Something more is going on :(
I am leaning Britax because I have a b-ready stroller.

I got a Chaperone for our baby due in Sept, and I think with the headrest, that it would work well for what you're wanting.......

I was actually thinking Chaperone might work for a floppy baby, too. It changes the angle they lie at and might give more support...

A Coccoro has a boat load of padding.

I'm not up on the infant seats, but there are some of the Graco infant seats with really nice body support.
