Which car to use?

I will traveling to see family. We will have a rental car some of the time but I will also probably use my parents cars for some of the trip. They have a 2004 PT cruiser and a 97 Chevy Cavalier. I have a radian and a boulevard. Will they fit in those vehicles next to each other and will the radian install in those vehicles or are there compatibility issues. Will the 97 vehicle have seatbelts I can lock beforehand?

A 97 vehicle should have locking seatbelts.

I can't help you on Radian install in those vehicles. As you know typically they install very nicely next to each other.

In general an 04 vehicle should have newer safety features, especially for adult front seat passenger/driver, which is one thing to consider.

I'm not familiar with either of those vehicles, but KQ is right, the belts in the '97 will lock somehow (tutorial on how seat belts lock), and the '04 will probably be a "safeR" vehicle, for people in front at least.

I also did a search in the Radian Successful Install Thread for you and found three entries for "PT cruiser" but nothing under a search for "Chevy Cavalier" (though that doesn't mean it won't install well, just that nobody has done it and posted on the thread!):
PT cruiser 1
PT cruiser 2
PT cruiser 3

Hope this helps! :)

Also to consider is that given a choice, in general, I'd rather have 7 year old seatbelts than 14 year old seatbelts restraining me and my family. :)
