Which booster for my son?

Hi,

I'm looking for a booster seat for our son. I'd like something with a detachable back/headrest to offer head support (naps) on long drives. My son is 4 1/2 yrs old, 40 pounds, torso (seated height from bottom to top of shoulder) is 14.25". The booster will be in a Honda Fit.

Wondering what your recommendations might be and what pro's & con's there are to the recommended boosters.

Is he in a booster now?If not and he is still in his car seat has he outgrown it? Most 4 yr olds are still not quite ready for a booster and should be harnessed a little longer.

I'm not comfortable boostering a 4 year old. Kids typically don't have the maturity and impulse control until 5-6. Your son also has a fairly short torso, so there are lots of harness seats that would let him quite a while. Are you open to harnessing him longer?

I'll agree that most people around here aren't comfortable putting a child in a booster at that age... May look at the Traci nautilus which is a harnessed seat then highback booster then a low back booster...

I would recommend a combination seat (harness to booster). Most kids are not mature either to sit correctly 100% of the time at 4y. It is recommended to harness to 5-6y. Actually nhtsa says harness until 7y or it is outgrown.

I would look at the harmony defender, graco nautilus, evenflo securekid, britax frontier.
