Question When to retire the infant car seat?

Gosh, it's hard to become a member of this forum!! Captchas seem to be getting harder every day.

My son has not yet reached the weight/height limit on his infant car seat, but we very rarely move him WITH the car seat (i.e. he sits in the shopping cart when we go shopping and we carry him when we go out). I am having a really hard time finding answers to questions I have. I have been eying the Graco My Ride car seat that seems to fit our needs and budget, but I'm wondering if there's any reason to keep him in his Graco Snugride infant car seat longer. Is he safer in the infant seat as long as he fits the height/weight requirements?

Are there pros to moving him to the larger car seat but keep him rear facing? Is it easier to take a child out and put him back in a convertible car seat than the infant car seat?

My son is almost 8 months old, 15lbs and about 26.5" tall. Thanks in advance!

You can move him any time you're ready. The My Ride fits newborns, so at his age he'll fit just fine. There's no safety difference, a rear facing seat is a rear facing seat. If you'd like to switch to the My Ride now, go for it.

All seats are different anyway when it comes to buckling. Some infant seats are easier than others, some convertibles are easier than others.

I hear you on the captchyas. They're impossible!! Sometimes I'm tempted to play the accessible audio. LOL

Hi, Lots of babies really like convertible seats better. They sit up a little more in them. I had a my ride and like it a lot.

Not sure if you know this but target puts them on sale pretty often. Sometimes between $100-125!! Great seat for the price!

I can't tell if you're asking if there are benefits to moving him to a convertible, or if you're asking if there are benefits to keeping him rear facing when he does. If the former, what the PP said. My son definitely prefers the more upright angle. If it's the latter, rear facing is so, so much safer than forward facing, and is likely the only legal option for a baby his age.

You might like to take a peak at the evenflo triumph advance 65. I was considering the myride until I tried the Triumph.
