If you guys can come up with better ways to raise money I'd love to present them so they can lower/eliminate the cost of the Pictoral again.

How many people are going to be willing to shell out $30 for that file ?

I'd be willing to hazzard a guess that they'd get a lot more purchases at a much lower price.

Actually, that file gets a lot of use at checkup events. I'm thinking that's where the money is supposed to come from-- the sponsors of the checkup events.

Jennie, I'll check.

I don't know of other great ways to make money, but that pictorial is a tool used by non-car seat type people. I send the links to people on craigslist all the time because they can't find a dom on their seat anywhere. That pictorial can show people that their car seat hasn't been manufactured in the last 6 years and is therefore definitely expired. Perhaps charge more for the latch manual?

The LATCH Manual is sold by a different organization. :)

Jennie, it is not. Do you think that techs would be willing to pay $150 instead of $135 if it included the pictoral? I could mention that as a suggestion.

Also, please note that it's not $30 every time you want to use it. It's $30 once, and you get to keep it. Considering it's updated every 2 years or so and takes a lot of work to do so, I don't think that's a wholly unreasonable price if you use it a lot.

The LATCH Manual and the car seat pictorial are published by different organizations (Safe Ride News and SBS respectively).

Frankly, other than some people who might have it sent to them via craigslist or some car seat fanatics here, I think very, very few non-techs use it.

I, too, imagine they intend it to be used by agencies running seat check events.

If it's included in their tech subscription (along with recall list access, car seat instructions, etc) that seems reasonable to me. (Even if it isn't included, I feel it's reasonable to charge.)

Also, I should point out that keeping it online for free means that when people use it, it uses bandwidth, which they are charged for.

Sorry, not good with acronyms. seat belt, safe ride, it all sounds so similar. Well, what else does seat belt safety do?

Hmm. Not sure. The $135 is already an (understandable) increase over what it was before. $150 would be harder to swallow.

Personally, I've only used the pictorial...maybe three times? And that was just for fun. I don't have any real NEED for it.

So I guess, no, *I* wouldn't want to pay an extra $15, although I'm sure the coalition I work with would have no problem with it. And if they did raise the price and included it, I would still get the subscription (although I keep forgetting to renew my old one )

Ok, so you think it's better separately? I thought so too, but if there's a lot of demand for it, I thought it might be a good idea. :)

They publish a newsletter, publish lots of handouts, do a ton of advocacy, training, etc., develop CPS programs, etc. Lots of great stuff, really.

SafetyBeltSafe puts out a newsletter; runs a helpline for parents, caregivers, hospitals, etc.; provides training and resources for techs; advocates on the federal and state level; interacts with the media to advocate for better use; there are other things too.

carseat.org is the website. :)

Well, if they could throw it in without increasing the tech price...

But yeah, I'd probably prefer it be available separately than to "force" me to buy it as part of the package.

I don't think, as things stand, that I can suggest including it without raising the price at all. Unless I want to be chewed out. LOL.

I have a mac and it automatically saves all downloads. I still have the 5pt and infant still in my download files. I am only missing the booster. I use it a lot when I'm on CL to look and see if a seat is expired before I email.

What about publishing it as a downloadable PDF? If they use a service like http://www.kagi.com/index.php , then they don't have to host it and it doesn't eat into their bandwidth. I think $10 - $15 would be much more reasonable. $30 is ridiculous for several pages of PDF.
