This is why we care so much about carseats

Wait. You are talking about Wellborn Road in COLLEGE STATION?

I totaled the only car I've ever totalled on that road! Its when we were living in the mobile home park down that road. Looking at the map, its really grown up and I'm having a hard time telling what is what

Turning off of Rock Prairie Road or maybe Capstone Drive unto Wellborn is where it happened --but Wellborn was 2 lanes each direction when I lived there. 7 lanes! Wow.

I'm glad your injuries are minor. I was in a similar accident in college as a passenger, an elderly lady suddenly made a U-turn from a right turn lane.

I have encountered some incredibly bad drivers in CS mostly around A&M. Is that Ace Hardware in one of your pictures?

Yes, Wellborn in College Station. That is the Ace Hardware building in the background, but the store closed a couple of months ago.

 So glad you're ok!

Can I ask what year tribute that is? I've had my eye on 2008 escapes and tributes..

Wow! You are so lucky to be unharmed. Looks like your vehicle held up well to protect you, and of course the seats saved your children.

This was at Wellborn Road and Cain. I was southbound on Wellborn and the truck just ran the stop sign on Cain. Why anyone runs stops signs is beyond me, but why you run one going from a 2 lane road across a 7 lane road is beyond me.

I was hit 20 years ago when a girl ran a stop sign and drove into my path on a 4-lane road with a speed limit of 55. She didn't even see the stop sign b/c she was looking over her shoulder to see which street she had just passed.

So glad you and your kids are OK!

Looks like everything did it's job! So glad to hear you guys are ok. I'm sure you are sore and moving a little slower today but thankfully no more than that.

Wow.. I'm new here, but reading yours and KetchupQueens stories moved me so! I cry when I think of your sweet babies being so terrified, but am so happy they were ok and able to scream! I have always been very adamant about proper car seat usage even before having children and this just solidifies and strengthens my resolve to keep my kids safe!

I see so many unrestrained and improperly restrained children where I live, it infuriates me! How can people take a child's life so lightly! The more these stories get out there, hopefully the more people will listen and our children will stay safe! It can absolutely happen in an instant w/o a second to react.

Sending healing thoughts your way. Not just for the physical injuries either.

So scary! I'm in tears reading this. I can't imagine what must have gone through your poor DH's mind. I'm so glad that you are all relatively okay. (((Gentle Hugs)))

UPDATE:

We went to the salvage yard to clean out the Tribute. I burst into tears when I saw P's door caved in again. I took some pics, including interior pics of the crushed in door. It's really startling to see how much it intruded int he passenger cabin. But, here's the amazing thing--the MyRide looks PERFECT (I won't reusue it obviously). Not a bend, crack, stress mark, etc. It is amazing to look at. It's like it just came out of the box. There is nothing more I could ask from a seat.

That is amazing. Can't wait to see the interior pics. The MyRide does have the nice high sides, its one of my favorite rf seats

How terrifying, thank goodness you and your children are okay! This is (obviously) one of my biggest fears and you are so right, THIS is why I care about car seats (and why I can't wrap my mind around the people that just don't seem to care!).

On another note, I will be going out to buy one of those seat belt cutters so that I can remove my children and their seats in the event of a collision.

Where can you buy these? Even if I never have to use one (and I sure hope I never do) it would be nice to have on hand.

I'm so glad you guys are all okay. When I hear stories like this and see pictures I really don't understand why someone would take car and child passenger safety lightly.

Same here. I see it way too much, especially on facebook. It's to the point where I'm actually surprised when I see a baby/child properly restrained. I'm sorry, but isn't it common sense that a loose harness with the chest piece at the belly button isn't how you do it? And don't get me started on forward facing infants...

Hugs to you mama! It's going to take time to heal. I don't blame you one bit for being emotional, I know I'd be the same way. But how awesome that your seat (and car) did their jobs so well!

This is the driver's backseat, which was not damaged (for comparison):

This is the passenger's backseat, which took a direct hit, though it was the second impact:
