Thank God you and the kids are ok.... shortly after this, I just saw a pic on FB with a barely turned 1 year old in a HBB... I sent her a msg with this page linked. Hopefully that will help... Plus my standard lecture :)

So glad you are all ok.

Reminder to the lurkers. Please don't get out of the car after a crash unless the car is on fire. Same goes for the kids. Please, please let the built in back boards do their job!

YES! Ever!!

I'm so glad you guys are ok--how scary. I'm amazed your car did that well!

Since the other driver failed to stop at a stop sign they are at fault. Cross traffic always has to yield to traffic on the highway.

What a scary story. Thank goodness you and your babies were properly restrained and are okay. Did this happen on Hwy 6? I have had my fair shares of scares on it and I have never lived in CS.

At first I was going to agree with you guys, but the large amount of gasoline concerned me. I asked DH, and he said he would consider that an emergent situation where the passengers should be away from the vehicle if possible (especially with large amounts in hot weather). He said ideally kids should be removed still in their seats (especially if they appear injured), but especially if they seem ok he'd want them out ASAP.

Then he spent 10 minutes explaining to me how volatile gas fumes are, but I kinda tuned out at that point.

And now he's saying it's a tough judgement call. He wouldn't fault people either way because it's really hard to know which way it will go.

Oh my gosh, mama... so glad you're all ok! That's so scary, so very very glad P was RF (esp since his side took the hit!)

At first I had the same thought -- don't get the kids out -- until I read about the large amounts of gasoline. Given that, I think I would have reacted the same way, although of course the kids being removed in their seats would be best-case-scenario. (Not a criticism -- it is hard to react in situations like this and I think the more we analyze, the more we internalize, and the "proper" reaction becomes second nature.)

Are you ok with this story being shared as a teaching tool?

Give your boys from extra snuggles, and take some down time... having had a major accident last year, I know how it feels afterwards (and I was alone in the vehicle, I didn't even have any babies with me!) Take some deep breaths and try to think about what *is* -- you are all ok! -- and not what could have been.

I'm so glad you guys were able to walk away!!!

On another note, I will be going out to buy one of those seat belt cutters so that I can remove my children and their seats in the event of a collision.

ETA: A seat belt cutter because I'm not going to want to try and fiddle with lockoff/seat belts/stupid possible bent Latch clips etc....

Oh my goodness I'm so glad you're all ok! I hope the minor bruises and injuries fade quickly. *hugs* How scary! Makes me want to turn in my sedan for a bigger vehicle.
