Question Sunshine Kids Radian Question

I have a Sunshine Kids Radian (Manufactured in 2008)

The manual says that it is good as a forward facing carseat until 65 pounds.

Does anyone know what the height limit is? When do I know that it is too small for my child.

Also, I don't think that this carseat is suitable to use as a Booster Seat after 65 pounds but does anyone know otherwise.

Thank you for the help.

You may use the seat FF until 65 pounds or until the childs ears are level with the top of the seat. Most FF restraints require the child's shoulders to be below the top harness position but Sunshine Kids allows the shoulders to go over as long as the tops of the ears are not above the seat back.

Your seat does not convert to a booster.

How old and heavy is your child?

Sunshine Kids states that the seat is outgrown by height when the tips of the ears goes over the top of the shell. Most carseats say when the shoulders go over the top slot. But Sunshine Kids is ok with doing it otherwise. Overall height doesn't matter, since a long legged child and a long torsoed child who are the same height will outgrow a seat at a different pace.

The Radian is not a booster. There are no instructions for booster use in the manual, nor are there belt guides anywhere on the seat.

This is the Canadian forum and I think I remember being told by our Canadian members that the Canadian Radian cannot be used with shoulders over the top slots.

I think the stated height limit is 53", but as others have said, it's generally understood that a seat can be used forward facing until the ears are above the shell or the shoulders above the top harness slot.

The Canadian and USA versions of the manual for the Radian are available from the SKJP website. They're similar regarding height limits except that the USA version has an exception to allow the shoulders to be higher than the top slot as long as the overall height limits are met. This exception is not present in the Canadian version.

Based on this, in Canada you can only use it until you meet any of the following:
1) shoulders are as high as the top slots
2) tops of ears above the back of the shell
3) child is more than 53" tall

Re-check your manual and seat stickers for a height, my 2007 Radians have a height limit of 51" so if now it is 53", your 2008 may be one or the other.

But definitely you need to look at the tips of the ears being contained within the shell and that the harness slots are even with or below the shoulder.
