Question about installing a Maestro in a 98 Civic.

We are planning on buying a Maestro to put in our 1998 Honda Civic. DD will rarely be in there so it is really a back up seat, but I want to make sure that it can be installed there. The car obviously doesn't have LATCH so can the Maestro be installed without the top tether or is it required. If it is required I can get the car retrofitted for one unless anyone has any other suggestions for seats.

We are planning on purchasing 2 Frontier 85s for our other 2 vehicles, but I didn't want to purchase 3 of those if I can help it because like I said she will rarely be in the Civic.

It says something in the Maestro's manual about some children being safer in booster mode if no top tether is available. It is a little vague but I would assume that is for children between 40 and 50 lbs. I would get the top tether if you can.

FF seats must use top tether and most cars can be retrofitted so I would call to find out how to go about doing that. I wouldn't put DD in booster mode before she is ready no matter how little she would be in the car if you can help it!

Thank you. I will call the Honda dealership and get it retrofitted because under no circumstances is she going in a booster anytime soon.;)

Mandatory in Canada. They are not mandatory for use in the US. BUT they are strongly recommended for safety and lowering head excursion in a crash.

when you call you will need this info:

part # 82410-SE3-C01 (those are zeros) called a "plate assembly" part costs about $13. you can have one installed or in all three positions of the back seat.

It says instructions are in the vehicle owner manual, not with the part.

hope that helps.

Like Jean said, that's true in Canada, but not true in the US. It's recommended, but not required with a seatbelt installation.

I actually didn't post that - I was going to but Jourdysmom got to it first this morning. :)
