Ok so we need to buy a new seat for a 3 yo (well 3 yrs 2 months) he is 37 inches tall 34 lb and is about to out grow the scenera rfing. I was thinking apex 65 or evenflo triumph advance (on a budget). The car has adjustable headrests but would require a seat belt install. Opinions? tia:)

Either of those are fine. Also in that price range is the Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe, which goes to 55 pounds FFing. It's a watered down Marathon, made by Britax under the FP name. I think it's $130 or so. All three seats have 17" top slots.

Of those three seats, my son and nephew think the Triumph is the most comfortable....and it definitely works better for sleeping for them.

The Apex is decent, as in it has the high weight limit and tall top slots and converts to a decent booster...but it lacks EPS foam and it's tough to unbuckle the harness.

The FPSVD is nice seat, it just seems to be a little less comfy than the Triumph (but the cover washes up better/easier!).

If I were picking b/t the Apex and the Triumph, I'd go with the Triumph almost every time (unless the child was really, really close to outgrowing the harness and would be going into a booster very soon).

Are you wanting to keep your child rearfacing longer?

Has your child outgrown the scenera forward facing yet (shoulders need to be at or below the top harness lot, ears within the shell, not over 40 pounds)? You said he was outgrowing the seat rearfacing but didn't state if he had outgrown the seat forward facing. If the child hasn't outgrown the seat forward facing yet, it might be worth it to wait a few months and see the new carseat choices then. There is talk of a few new higher weight/height seats coming out first quarter 2008.
