Measuring a TFP angle with an iphone?

What part to you measure the angle against? I'm using the ihandy app, and measuring against the foam of the back of the seat (I lifted up the cover) I'm getting about 31deg (adjusting for the slope of our driveway) however, the level indicator bubble is freefloating (just barely but still freefloating).

Should I consider it good or try and get it closer to 35deg according to the iphone level?

Thanks!

I go on top of the cover, but under the infant padding or headrest if they're in there.

I don't trust their bubble. It was on 2 when Laine was a newborn. You'd have to be upside down for it to be in the X.

I'd get yourself on a flat surface, and recheck.

You need to park the vehicle on level ground and use their angle indicator. Each manufacturer sets their own allowed angle, based on how that seat performs. Some seats are okay at 50 degrees. Some seats can't be reclined past 40. Using a seat properly means following all of the manufacturer's instructions, including those about proper installation angle.

Well our carport slopes less than 2deg according to the iphone.

I'm using the seat for a 30lb 3yo so I'm hoping for as upright as I can get. I'll go out later and try to get it closer to 35deg and see how much difference it makes.

Thanks!

That 35* would be if you were measuring outer angle. I'm quite sure they gave that number because the interior angle is more upright than the exterior angle. and that number was given back when the level was just a red line so parents didn't have the age/recline separation in the manual or for the angle indicator.

I wouldn't worry about the exact angle if it's in the range allowed. Sounds like the way you have it now is fine.
