I just bought a 2003 Kia Rio Wagon...

And Charlie's chair fits *perfectly* in the back! I'm SO excited! But....the top tethers are at the back of the cargo area. This, obviously, presents a problem. I can't use up all that cargo area for her chair AND have the top tether attached. Is there an alternate place to retrofit a tether? In the meantime I'm going to put Adrian in a booster and turn Charlie rf'ing so I won't need the TT. We'll eventually be getting a smaller chair that I may be able to put folded in the front seat, so that may be an option later. It would be nice to be able to use the cargo space though!

An untethered seat is an untethered seat, whether that seat is a harness os a booster. Tethered FFing = safer than untethered, but untethered harness = booster. You're not gaining anything by putting A in a booster instead of an untethered harness seat.

As for the tether, there aren't factory options of other locations, but you could get the heavy duty tether anchor from EZ On and put that in the roof.

Well except that he's in a regent now and it HAS to be tethered. Plus, he's 6 1/2 and about 50 lbs and there's no reason not to put him in a booster.

I'll look into the ez on anchor, thanks! Charlie should be getting her traveller in the next 6 months and I believe that has to be tethered too? I wouldn't feel comfortable having her in such a huge seat untethered anyway. I'll admit to using her myride untethered on occasion, like when we're in someone else's car if they don't have one. But I really want a huge seat to be all but welded to the car. LOL

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the TP has to be tethered. I'm thinking it even needs two tether hooks, at least at a certain weight.

I googled it and it said you had to do 2 anchors at 80 lbs, but we'll be transporting her in her chair by then so it won't ever be an issue.

You could look into a different seat that allows an alternative to tethering- like the Roosevelt's EZ-Tether system, which uses a shoulder belt in a lockoff instead.

We already got the process started on the traveller! I do think the roosevelt would just be too much seat for her though. I'll see about another tether anchor point and go from there. I wish I had the funds to just buy the *perfect* car for us, but I was working with a budget of $4000 so I had to jump on a "good-enough" car.
