frayed strap question for a friend

My friend's ds (almost 3) is in a Britax Boulevard 65. A mouse got in the car and nibbled the strap in one place. Can just the straps be replaced on this seat? If so, where do we order them? If not is it garbage?

Thanks!

What portion of the strap is frayed? If it were the very tip of the adjuster strap and there was no other damage, I probably wouldn't be concerned. Anywhere that's within the loop from the adjuster mechanism throughout the whole harness system, I would recommend no longer using the seat until a replacement can be installed. Britax customer service can send out new harness components, but apparently their shipping to Canada is $20 on top of the parts cost.

I had to replace my harness on my Britax once, and due to the prohibitive shipping cost they ended up sending it for free. It was a fraying issue, not a mouse issue, but they were really good about it.

A mouse ate my Radian straps once. In the car. Yuck.

Okay, tell me, how did a mouse get in your car?!

Believe it or not, it's not uncommon in Hondas. We were at my parents' in rural Ontario and the mouse got in somehow. I don't know how. But my Mom actually has to set mouse traps in the fall, IN HER CAR!, but only in her Honda. No other vehicles seem to have this problem! My grandmother has had a dead chipmunk in her Civic twice. It's a really nasty smell blasting through the ventilation system (I thought we had a vomiting smily but I guess that was on another forum :)

As for the mouse... she's disgusted that they're getting in. She has a Toyota car (maybe a Yaris), relatively new with no visible access for critters. She does live rurally but what the heck, it's Canada, don't a lot of us live in rural areas? She's worried that if she buys a new seat the same thing will happen again. Thanks for the strap info I'll pass it on.
I guess you have to call, I can't see the info on the Britax website.

It is very very common for people to get rodents (mice, rats, possums) inside their vehicles in the Lower Mainland and Victoria areas. I know people who have had rats chew through the firewall in the engine compartment and into the passenger area -- chewing up the engine area so badly, the car wouldnt' start. I know other people who had rats chew from the undercarriage of the vehicle, into the trunk and then into the passenger area. These incidents are happening in pricey areas too, not the Downtown Eastside.

I know so many people this has happened to, all sorts of different vehicle makes (imports, domestics, etc).

Interesting, I'll suggest they look closely for chew holes in the trunk. They're pretty sure it's mice as they've seen little prints in the snow around the car.
