Question Expiry Date Extension?

I recently had a friend tell me that there are clinics you can take your carseats too that will exam your seat and "recertify" it for extended use. Apparently they put a new expiry sticker on it and deem it "safe to use."

Myth or fact?

That is a myth that some of us would love to track down the source of! If your friend could tell us specifically who is claiming to re-certify used/old carseats, it would be great to have a conversation with the source of these claims.

Just confirming what Nicole said.

I know that I have had a few people contacting me asking to have a seat certified because they were told by the health unit that I do car seat inspections. I think in the case of these people, it is simply misinterpreting what they have been told and implying something different from the word "inspection" - though some get rather unpleasant when I tell them that seats can only be certified by the manufacturer at the time of production...

I believe there is somewhere saying they can re-certify seats though, so if you're able to track the source down that would be great.

I seem to remember a thread where a poster said that either a police or fire station was "re-certifying" seats. I thought they were located in BC somewhere.

Yes! We have been trying to figure out where this mystery location is but everyone that mentions it has heard about through their cousin's neighbour's dog. ;)

She says she can't remember who told her. She is in Sask and I am in Alberta (which shows how well word of mouth works! LOL) Thanks for clearing that up before I went on a fruitless search! LOL
