Expiration?

My husband and I took our new Britax Chaperone seat to the police station this morning and had it checked by the safety technician there.

He told us that all car seats now expire in four years, but I read on the Britax website that the expiration is six years.

Does anyone know the correct information about expiration dates?

Lot he knows. Most expire in 6 yrs a few in 7 and the frontier is 9 yrs.

Check on your seat for date of manufacture and expiration date.

There's also one that expires in five years, one in eight, and one in ten. So basically anything between five and ten is possible. No seats expire in only four years, and the only universal "expiration" is we are trained that if a seat does not specify an expiration, then do not use it after ten years.

Expiration is set by the manufacturer, and is based on several factors including the materials.

There are seats with 5-, 6-, 7-, 8-, 9-, and 10-year expirations. The only one I know of with a 4-year expiration is the BubbleBum inflatable booster, and even that might have been changed.

Britax used to have a 6-year expiration for most stuff, but they have been going longer on some seats recently. Check your manual (I'm pretty sure Britax has it in there). Definitely not 4 years on Britax though.

Thank you!!

I did not think what he was saying was correct, but I wanted to be sure I did not miss something.

Always read your manuals. That will give you best info about seat installation and expiration.
Did he install your seats? You might want to check them again.

There is actually 1 seat that expires in 4 years - the Bubblebum booster seat. I keep hoping maybe they will change that to 5 or 6 years and make it retroactive. LOL....
