I'm trying to figure out whether the car seat situation in my mother's car is unsafe. She has a used Eddie Bauer convertible car seat that was manufactured May 2009. I didn't see an expiration date, but I may have missed it (I didn't uninstall the seat to turn it over), and I don't know the model. The internet is telling me expiration is either 6 years (already passed) or 8 years. Thoughts?
Second issue: the button to loosen the straps was not releasing the straps, so she sprayed some dry lubricant (she said it is silicone, not oil) in there and now it's working. Is it okay to use a dry lubricant on this part of the seat?
I am uncomfortable with the whole situation and put up another post for replacement recommendations. How unsafe do you think this current seat is? I'm wondering how urgent it is to get a new seat (I want it this very moment, but I am aware I can get a bit high strung about things like this). My 3 1/2 year old rides in this seat for short distances almost every day. Thank you for your advice!
