Question Do I need to stop using LATCH at 40 lbs??

I have a 2008 Honda Pilot, and although there is NO mention of weight limit for LATCH in my owner's manual, I have read on the internet that there may be a limit. My almost 4 year old is 41 lbs and still in a Britax marathon comfortably. Do I need to stop using the lower latch and install with a seat belt? Thanks for answering!


This seat is also used in a Volvo which I do not think lists a weight limit either.

In your Honda, yes. You must switch to the seatbelt and top tether.

In the Volvo it may depend. How old is your Marathon? Volvo defers to the carseat. So if your carseat was made after 2007 (I believe) it will say 40 pounds unless the car specifies higher. If it's older, it has a 48 pound LATCH limit.

The good news is that Britax seats are very easy to install with a seatbelt.

Thank you very much! This board is great. I am looking at the manual now...my britax is probably a 2009, but definitely after 2007 so I will switch. Do you know if it is safe to use the seat belt with the detachable anchor? My middle position back seat has that for the seatbelt, and I like to put him in the middle seat. The side seat positions have regular seatbelts.

Detachable anchor? Where you pull it down from the ceiling? That's fine.
