Car seat on aplane - would True Fit convertible fit?

Hi ladies,

I need some advice. DD is around 18.5 lbs and we'll be flying (around 3 hrs flight) next month. I have no iodea which car seat to bring for her. She doesn't sit unassisted and I'm usuing True Fit RR in the car, which works great. I also have Chicco Key Fit, which is a bit small for her, but I'm considering it because of easiness to carry it. Also, would True Fit fit in a plane
seat?

True Fit is FAA-approved so it can be used on the plane, but it's wide so you will need to put the armrest up. Don't book the bulkhead.

If she still fits in the Keyfit I would take that because it is RF-only so you shouldn't run into problems with flight attendants telling you to FF. Plus it's smaller and lighter than the TF and can snap into a stroller if you have one for it.

When you say the KF is a bit small for her, do you mean it IS too small, or that she still fits the limits but is starting to get close? If the seat is outgrown (reached the wt limit and has less than 1" shell above the head) then do NOT take that seat. If you are worried about taking the TF, maybe you could buy a Cosco Scenera for a travel seat. They are fairly small+slim, very light, and inexpensive. You may need to pack pool noodles/towel to take with you for RF installs at your destination.

Also, depending on where the seatbelt buckle lands, I'd recommend asking for a seatbelt extender (usually used to lengthen the seatbelt for obese people). Airplane buckles tend to be in the middle of the seatbelt rather than on the outside edge like cars.

The problem you're trying to avoid is having the 'lift up' part of the buckle somewhere you can't release it. This is usually a bigger issue FF than RFing because the belt path is enclosed. In the case of rfing, the buckle might end up on top of the seat, making it uncomfortable for the child.

Thanks for your responses. We bought Cosco Scenera (a friend of mine also recommended it for travel). Now only to figure out how to install it RF in the plane
