Car seat on Airplane

Does anyone know of an ideal seat to take on airplane? My son is 3 and 401bs. I'm considering the new Graco Nautilus but it looks huge. I was hoping for something more lightweight. I guess I may just have to strap him in with the lap belt on a smaller seat?? Any ideas???

There are no smaller seats on a plane. They're all the same size (well, in coach anyway).

The Nautilus fits well on a plane. The Radian is fabulous if you travel a lot. It folds so you can put it on your back (you can get straps to carry it like a backpack). It installs in about three seconds, is narrow enough that the armrests can be down and is low enough that the tray can be used. It's $200 and it has an eight year lifespan. It has 18" top slots and a 65 pound forward facing limit.

For that age and weight the Radian is probably the easiest seat to travel with. Not the lightest, but easiest. Any of the other lightweight ones I can think of are either very wide (the Apex 65) or have a 40 pound limit.

smaller seat meaning booster? As far as I know you can't use a booster on the plane. Wish I could help you more, but my son is still well under 20lbs and only 27" :)

If you are just looking for something for the plane and not a car, you may want to consider a CARES "harness", as shown in this website.

www.kidsflysafe.com.

I haven't used it yet, but will be traveling later this month and will try it for the first time.

Good luck.
