Bubble bum leg support?

I have a 8 yr dd who is getting close to passing the test to fit in a regular seat belt, but still has to grow a bit taller. I have a 6 yr ds - still harnessed in a Graco Nautilus. When needed to fit three people across in the back, we will use the Ride Saver Travel Vest. But, DD has outgrown the vest and DS doesn't like it very much. I am interested in getting the Bubble Bum to use instead.

Questions: Watching the video on the Bubble Bum site, it looks like the back of the leg from the knee to the mid thigh is unsupported since the Bubble Bum doesn't extend out to the edge of the seat. Could we put a rolled up towel or something there to support the back of the legs? We wouldn't put it under the Bubble Bum or affect the positioning of the seat. It would just support the legs. Is this OK to do?

If your child uses the Bubble Bum, does this lack of support bother him/her? Would your child be comfortable using the Bubble Bum on a long road trip? (We may be driving from FL to NY this summer and would need 3 across on the back seat.) My kids' existing seats have virtually no padding for their bottoms -- it seems like the Bubble Bum would be a bit more cushy.

Thanks for any comments about the Bubble Bum.

It has no leg support. My daughter finds it easy to travel with, but other than that she doesn't like it much.

Towels or a pillow beyond the booster would be fine. Or putting towels stacked on the floor for foot support may ease the pressure on the back of the legs.

Yeah, my cousin was the same as Wendy's daughter. She was ok with it for short trips (like to the store), but no way would she agree to sit in it for a long road trip. She 5 steps now, but when she was using it she was 10 and a skinny little thing... average height though.

DD2 uses hers for field trips, haven't tried any long trips with it. Have to say I *love* it for field trips (esp. since she's probably the only 4th grader in the school whose crazy mom makes her use a booster) - I don't even deflate it, just put it in a little backpack or reusable grocery bag, and it's much lighter and easier for DD to carry than the backless FPSV she had to lug around last year.
