40 pound limit question

My son is 3 years old and rear facing in a Graco Milestone. He is currently around 33 pounds. The manual says 40 pound weight limit for rear facing.

Dumb question....is that 40 pounds, including his clothes/shoes/etc? Because I would like to keep him rear facing as long as possibly but I don't know if that means until he's actually 40 pounds or more like 38 or something.

Sorry, I'm sure this is incredibly dumb but I was just curious.

It's 40 pounds in his clothes and shoes. Everything the seat needs to restrain.

I wouldn't worry. That may be another year to two years.

True, he gains weight so slow now. He's 38.5 inches tall. Just turned 3 in September. Our "goal" was 3 years rear facing but now I am hoping to hit 3.5 years. Maybe turn him at 4? We'll see, I guess.
