Question 3 car seats in a rav4?

Hello, I have a 2013 Rav4. I have a 2 year old and am expecting twins in April. I have a feeling I'm reaching here, but do you know if there are any car seat combinations that would fit 3 across in the back seat? I would much rather spend money on car seats than a new car, but of course safety for the babies is the most important. Thank you for any advice you could give me.

Thank you,
Shannon

Hi Shannon. Your manual states to not use the center seat if you have a carseat installed on the driver's side. So I'd be very very wary of attempting a three across in your car.

That's from your manual.

I'm sorry the news is not better.

I think you can install a car seat in the middle since you'll need to engage the ALR lock mode for the center seatbelt. I believe the manual says for a person not to sit there b/c they're afraid the seatbelt won't auto lock in an accident. But since you will install a car seat there, you'll already manually engage the ALR lock mode so I would think it's fine to install 3 across.

No, in this case, the belt overlap makes it impossible to put almost anything center while something is outboard.

It's a really bad overlap. Previously manuals didn't expressly forbid it but it was still impossible to do safely barring very unusual restraints (BubbleBum, RSTV, basically.) But after repeated questioning, they finally took a look and decided to put in the manual that it shouldn't be done.
