2012 Mazda5 vs. Ford C-Max

I was very bummed to learn the sliding door version won't be offered as a hybrid or plug-in, only gasoline powered. :(

Awww. As soon as I mentioned this as a car choice to DH for my next ride, he found the hybrid version and crowed about it....guess he missed all those other details (well, you know, easy to do when they come out with sort of the same name for three sorta-similar-not-the-same cars, it's like the Alpha Omega of the Ford lineup, lol).

Anyone have any opinions on which vehicle would age better? Like I say, I haven't been particularly pleased with how our Focus has fared, but it would seem that the Mazda will just be the same vehicle under a different badge. :shrug-shoulders:

Ford recently sold their stake in Mazda (used to own like 40% I think). I have an '09 5 and love it. I believe all the 5s are still made in Japan which may impact the quality. I don't know much about Ford though.

Yeah Ford used to own 40% of Mazda but recently sold it back to them. The Mazda 5 has always been made in Japan. They brought it over to America after its success in Japan. They have made a few changes over the years to make it more appealing here. There is a lot of talk about the 7 passenger model but I do not know details.

For a while a lot of Ford and Mazda cars were made on the same platform. (Ex Ford escape and Mazda Tribute). The new Ford and the Mazda 5 are 2 completely different cars. It does sound like Ford tried to remake what Mazda had. I would be hesitant to buy the first model of a car. They need a few years to get the kinks out. The first model of the 5 has many things I didn't like but the current models have made most of those changes.

I loved my 5 but currently drive a CX-9 because we need a bigger car.

hi! i've been researching too, and so far my choice would be the ford, BUT we are going to have to go a couple of years used for financial reasons so i think we will go with the mazda5. i was considering the rondo but would want top tethers. i'm not sure about tethers in the ford c-max though. i'm really excited about that car though! gl choosing!

Anyone know if power sliding doors will be an option on either vehicle?

Not sure about the Ford but they weren't an option on the 5 as far I as recall from what the dealer told us about the 2012.

Dang I missed that the hybrid wouldn't have the third row seat:-( I guess the batteries take too much room! Back to the Highlander Hybrid as the only 7 passenger vehicle with decent fuel economy both on the highway and around town, too.
