Britax 'Bin the Booster'?

Does having a backless in the center makes any difference at the moment of an accident versus having a high back outboard?

It just surprised me that Britax was heading up a safety campaign against backless boosters because they are known for being a leading manufacturer of child car seats and boosters, and for a while were considered to to be the "gold standard". I don't quite understand why, are profit margins better on a high back vs backless booster? So (speculating here)... its all just intended to sell more highback boosters and make more money? But you would think that maybe profit margins may be less on a backless but they may make up for it in volume as a lot more people buy backless boosters (I think?).

I believe this is from their European division (one of them.) They don't sell boosters with a backless mode inn Europe. And they don't sell backless only here.

Several years ago, a European study came out that found backless booster seats were less safe than high back boosters.

I'm not sure it's really a study or I just haven't stumbled upon the corresponding paper. I think the ADAC [= Which] says that based on their crashtests. Obviously, if a NBB is crashed in that way it's going to be ugly and a HBB will look so much better  But here it says that an emergency braking event will likely put child's head outside the head-side-wings of a HBB and side impacts usually do have a forward component; which I don't think is replicated in those side impact tests very well? The author goes as far as to say that kids taller that 130cm should actually use a NBB not a HBB.
