Question 2 carseats in Ford Ranger?

Hubby has a 2008 Ford Ranger. It has the two front seats and 2 jumper seats in the back. Our 2 year old is in her car seat in the front passenger car seat because, according to our understanding, thats where her car seat pretty much has to go. Our 2 month old is still in a bucket infant seat. Since my 2yo is in the front seat already, would it be illegal to put the 2month old in his seat into one of the jumper seats? We cant afford another veichle right now and can not get rid of the truck either. What do we do?

Oh if it matters, we live in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Do the jump seats face the side? If so, no carseat can be installed there. None allow it.

Is your two year old rear or forward facing? If forward, do you have a top tether for her? That's required by law in Canada, though maybe there are exceptions (I don't think so).

There are four of you riding in this truck?

You can not put any carseat on a side facing jump seat. not a single one allows it. It doesnt matter, infant rearfacing, forward facing, booster, etc. NONE.

Is it a 4 or 5 passenger ranger? Chances are, you can not transport your family in this vehicle.

This review on edmunds.com mentions "inward facing jump seats". As already mentioned, you cannot install any car seat on the jump seats. It sounds like you already knew that since your 2yo is in the front. It seems like some trim levels have rear-folding jump seats but either way it is unlikely that a carseat can be installed there. If you have a middle seat in the front row, it is also unlikely that you can install a seat there - many trucks prohibit a carseat of any kind in the center front due to the risk from the driver's side airbag.

The issue of needing a top tether for a FF seat in the passenger side has already been raised, do you have one? If the carseat in the pass side is RF, you need to make sure that the airbag is disabled with a keyed switch, or it could be deadly tot he RF child.

Unfortunately it does not sound like you will be able to transport your family safely in this vehicle. :( If you need to kep the truck for work or some other reason, I would look around for a cheap vehicle for you to drive when you travel as a family. I do realize you said you can't afford it, but you either buy a car, get rides from frinds/use taxis, or use the truck in an unsafe and illegal manner. It's a rock and a hard place type of situation.
