We are flying with my four and a half year old niece, S, and her three year old sister L. The lady who is picking us up at the airport will be providing us adequate seats for the girls, but would you insist on harnessing the 4.5 year old on the plane. The flight is only going to be half an hour. L. will only have turned three 5 days before we depart. S weighs in at 36 pounds. L will be in a harnessed seat, her nautilus, she doesn't sit well enough to sit on the plane seat without a harness. S sits well enough that I would possibly let her go without her car seat.

Yes, I would be fine with a child that age using the plane's lapbelt only and would consider a CARES harness for the younger child if you won't need the Nautilus at your destination.

I agree completely. As long as they have adequate supervision a seatbelt for the 4.5 year old and a CARES for the 3 year old should work.

I am going to order the CARES Harness. Thanks for letting me know that it would be ok for her to fly without a car seat. There is going to be five adults along with the two little girls.

Did you know you can rent them on Ebay or Craigslist if this is a one-off adventure?

it turns out that when we get to our destination, the lady who was supposed to be picking us up, will not be able to, so we are going to have to take both seats. We are boarding a private jet, so we will place both girls in there car seats on the plane. L was saying to everyone today that she was going to take her car seat on a jet, lol she was so excited. They both ride in nautilus car seat.
