I'm so glad everyone is okay... I'm wondering what the insurance will do about the carseat in this case (though your insurance obviously should not be the one paying for anything).

I'm so sorry that you and your DH are having such trouble... hopefully no matter which way it ends up, you can both come to a more happy relationship.

I might take you up on that when I go to test drive new cars.

We were 15 miles south of Salem I kept wondering if you knew any of the first responders that came!

We don't do I-5. The guy on the left looks familiar though. I do know some of the Albany people.

Wow!! That's sounds so scary! I'm very happy to hear that (for the most part, still hoping for your mom's results!) everybody was ok. Is your son sore at all? If he was RF and you were rear ended, isn't that just like him being FF since the jolt would have sent his head forward (technically towards the back of the car, but he was backwards)? Correct?

Hope everything works out ok! Let us know how it goes with the TWE and what they say regarding that.

I'm glad you all are (more or less) ok!
Yeah, being rear ended in a RF seat is like being FF, but with much less force.

I'm so glad your son was protected and you and your mom are not seriously injured (at least from what you know.) Think how bad it could have been if you didn't know what you know! Or, um, let's not!

I too am interested in whether the insurance will ask what he was in, or just cover replacement cost for whatever you get.

How scary! Glad everyone is more or less okay, at any rate. I'll be thinking positive thoughts that your mom is fine, too.

Also curious about insurance covering your TWE. This is the primary reason that DH is balking at the idea of importing a MT, so I'm waiting to see what your ins. co. winds up doing.

It just keeps getting better and better. My mother has several broken ribs and I went to the ER today and have a concussion. DS is totally fine though! I talked with the ER doc about ERF and he was so so interested. I told him the AAP recommendations and he thought about it and said it totally made sense. I mentioned that some people think legs can break with bigger kids and without missing a beat he said "well I'd much rather deal with a broken leg than spinal injury." After he was finished with us I overheard him telling someone outside, don't know if it was another patient or nurse, everything he had just learned about ERF!

So hey some positive!

Oh and I totally don't think that the type of seat DS was in will be an issue. I've had a crashed seat before and a MA was in my other car that was stolen and insurance just asked how much the seats were worth, I told them and I got a check. They never asked what kind of seat.

Wow I'm so glad you are ok! I'm sorry that happened to you. Although your mom and probably you are safe drivers... It's everyone you need to be wary of. Not a good way to spend thanksgiving.
Just had a question. How do you have a two way in the states? Are you in Oregon?

Lucia Bella, you can buy them and have them shipped to the US now. It is legal to import them but technically not legal to use them ;)

They're legal in all EU countries. My DH was in London in May so he bought one and brought it back. Adventuredad also has a online store to have them shipped to the US.

Wow! Glad you all came out of that somewhat okay. I hope you and your mom heal quickly (I know that ribs can take forever...). Also good to hear the ER doc was receptive to ERF. Have fun picking out a new seat!

And I can just picture you son asking about Mater. :D

Just want to point out that when another party is clearly at fault, it doesn't matter what was in your car - it's your property and if it's damaged, then the responsible party's insurance will have to pony up. So they really have no reason to comment on the european seat. Sadly, even if your dog is killed while in your car during an accident, they will treat your beloved pet as property and only pay you replacement value. :(

Glad you're okay!

I almost think it was too bad it wasn't as hardcore a crash but a frontal collision--put that TWE to good use! ;)

What a year, though.. I've had years like those--I split with ex-DH, lost my job in the dot bomb, lost six figures of 401k in same, and then had 10 days to exit the country after losing my job because my visa was instantly expired...all while having ONE class remaining to finish my degree at my local university. No car crash cherry-on-top though.

Happy car(seat) shopping!

-Nicole.
