What should I salvage...

off of my crashed Marathon? I took the cover, pads, comfort foam and hugs off. That's all I can salvage right? Just want to make sure before I take a sawsall to it.

Was it occupied during the crash? I'm guessing it was or else you would probably be salvaging the harness, too. If it was occupied, then I wouldn't re-use the HUGS because they were subjected to crash forces. If unoccupied, then saving the HUGS should be alright. I hope everyone is alright and that everything is going smoothly for you with vehicle repairs/replacement and insurance claims.

I agree with Jean - I would toss the HUGS if the seat was occupied during the crash (which I think you said it was).

Ok, I'm sorry but I just don't see how HUGS could possible be unusable after a crash. I get the harness and everything else. But seriously HUGS are bendable rubber.

*I* Personally wouldn't toss them.

Yes, but they are part of the harness system - not just for comfort, but they actually assist in restraining the child and reducing forward head excursion.

Are they OK after a crash? Possibly, I don't know. But personally, I wouldn't risk it. :twocents:

LOL I'm also thinking logically that the HUGS would not necessarily perform adequately in another crash and I wouldn't want to risk re-using them. When in doubt, the OP can contact Britax and see what they recommend. :)

FWIW, I use the harnesses off old & crashed seats to make belts with. ;) All it takes is a length of harness, a locking clip, and a bit of time.

Oh that's a good idea! Or I could try and get ahold of some more and try to make my own seat belt bag. (Or have my crafty SIL do it for me.) That'd be fun.

Thanks for the input on the HUGS, I wasn't sure if they'd be ok to reuse. I was going to give them away but I'll just toss them instead. :)

Actually, I would save the HUGS as a "emergency only" spare set. As in, you can't find/have lost/misplaced new HUGS and the seat is FFg. In that case, I would use "crashed" salvage HUGS until your replacement new ones came from Britax.

Well, maybe Arly would still like those hugs. They could be specifically for her DS to have and it may divert him from the ones on his seat :)

I tend to agree with you. As long as they do not have any tears. My understanding is that they disburse the crash forces, they don't absorb them. I would think they would be okay. I would not give them away to anyone else, as I find the use of them after a crash to be a parental decision that only I would make from my seat, but I would probably re-use them if I needed them.
