Frontier Successful Install Thread

I searched, and couldn't find a Frontier Successful Install Thread, so I thought I'd start one, similar to this thread. Mods, if there is one that I missed in my search, please do your magic. :)

I figured, since that seat seems to have a learning curve, we might need another thread like this (I did lift the stuff below from my other thread, editing for this one).

Please post here if you have successfully installed a BRITAX FRONTIER your vehicle.

Please include the year, make and model of your vehicle, which method of install you used (LATCH, lap belt, lap/shoulder belt, long belt path, short belt path).

How does it work in all modes? Did you try them?

And the location of the seat (which I didn't think of until doriansmummy replied. Thank you!)

And let us know whether or not you're installing on bench seats or captains chairs.

If you are not a CPST, also include whether or not you've had your install verified by a CPST?

If you see your vehicle listed here and have questions about it, start a new thread, so that we can keep this one for just the yay/nays for good installs.

If your model is included, but it's a different year than your or it's a different body (say you drive a sedan and it's for a station wagon)--post a NEW thread to see if it applies to your particular car.

Don't forget that some vehicles seem to be named different things--but the same car. Like the Mercury Tracer/Ford Escort. If you can't find your particular car, but can find it's sister vehicle-- post a NEW thread to see if it applies to your particular vehicle.

I'm a CPS Tech and have found that the Frontier fits in:

2003 Honda Odyssey middle row captain's chair with LATCH or Long Belt Path--good installs.. I was not able to get an acceptable install with the Short Belt Path.

2006 Ford Escape, passenger side back seat, with LATCH or Long Belt Path--good installs. Also works well as a LATCHed booster seat in that position.
Driver's side back seat: Installed Long Belt Path, but with MUCH greater effort than the Px side (belt seemed like it would be too short, took a lot of weight on the side of the seat to get the belt to buckle).

This seat does not install Rearfacing

2007 Kia Sedona(Base model-not to be confused with the long base-different type of seats)

Captains chairs(either or)-2nd row:

Latch-Very easy rock solid-super easy!
Short Route Seatbelt install-Tricky---I had to recline the seat back a bit, latch it, then put the seatbelt through and then unlatch it ;-)

(I will try more later)

'05 8-passenger Toyota Sienna, second row center, long belt path installation is rock solid. One of these days I'll experiment more with LATCH and short belt path.

CPST/Firefighter
2000 Ford Windstar
Middle row
lap/shoulder
Long belt path
or latch
Doesn't work in the other positions

1998 Dodge Ram
Lap/shoulder
Short belt path
Would not reach LBP, but with an extra person, we probably could have done it

2006 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab
Good install LBP in outboard driver side position.
Center has a lap/shoulder belt but it was not long enough for LBP.
Latch both passanger side outboard and center worked fine.
Could not use SBP in any position.

2000 Chevy Suburban
Rock solid 2nd row bench seat passanger outboard position SBP (I did not try LBP).
Center is a lap belt only (so SBP) and I could not get an acceptable install.

2001 Chevy Blazer 4 door- 2nd row outboard only. Can not install child seat in center positon! Rock solid using LBP and tether. SBP got an acceptable install with tether (slight movement side to side but not more than 1 inch).

1998 Chevy Silverado ext cab- 2nd row center good install using SBP w/lap only belt. Outboard lap/shoulder install NOT GOOD. Neither belts long enough for LBP- and this car has NO tether but you can get one installed.

Have yet to try it in Gma's 2001 Mazda MPV and 2001 Chevy Tahoe but I'll post when I do!
I'm not a CPST but a car seat NERD and perfectionist!

I'm not a CPST.

1998 Pontiac Montana Transport captains chair, LBP great installation. Needed to recline seat back to get belt to reach, and then put seatback upright again. I didn't try SBP and we don't have this car anymore, but LBP was great.

2008 Toyota Corolla- LBP outboard, great installation, very easy. I am going to try SBP and latch tomorrow, and I will post back then about ease of installation.

2001 Volvo S60- LBP outboard, very tight installation, slightly tricky, but not horrible, just took a few minutes. I will try SBP in a few days, no Latch in the car.

If anyone wants to know I can try it in a 2005 Toyota Prius as well, just LMK, it is my mom's car.

2000 Dodge Durango
Rock solid LBP install second row driver's side outboard position
The belt was barely barely long enough, and it almost didn't make it, but it did eventually click. May require two people to install. Seats DO NOT recline.
SBP was a no go
We didn't try any other seating positions
No latch in that year of the Durango
It was installed by a tech from this board

p.s. Thanks for starting this thread!

Ilana, I would love to know how it installs in a Prius (I think someone on here mentioned previously they got it in one?!), so let us know!!

2001 Toyota Sequoia: LBP, second row, passenger outboard
SBP was a no go & I don't think there is Latch
* Did not have this inspected, since our other vehicle (primary one for dd to ride in) was inspected & was perfect, so we were confident in our install in the Sequoia.

2005 Hyundai Tucson: LBP, passenger outboard *This was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT the first few tries....I had to call Britax, but they did not test the Frontier on any Hyundai's when developing the seat, so they weren't a lot of help (but they were very nice). I was going to have to return this seat when finally my DH managed to get it in. The installs have been much easier every time since we figured it out. I did take my Tucson in to be inspected by a CPST & she said we had it in perfect!! It did have a bit of movement, but was within the guidelines. However, she did help us get it in one click tighter & now it is rock solid/shake the car solid.

SBP didn't work & didn't try Latch (since my dd is 38 lbs)

2001 Chevy Silverado Ex. Cab: Center LATCH and outboard passenger side LBP. SBP was a no go. 1st time installing anything with LBP!:D

2002 Pontiac Grand Am: LATCH outboard. SBP would not work and seatbelts weren't near long enough for LBP. Seriously, not even close.

My friends Chrysler Town and Country (don't know the year): LATCH and LBP on captains chair. Did not try backseat.

2008 Pontiac Torrent: LATCH, LBP, and SBP outboard. I haven't tried it in the middle yet. This is the first time I have been able to do SBP with this seat and it was easy. The Frontier is really great in this vehicle.

Honda Odyssey 2005-newer: Have not tried any other type of install.

LATCH, Captains chair, w/Top tether.

VW EOS (all model years) Have not tried any other type of install.

LATCH CANNOT BE USED IN THIS VEHICLE WITH THE FRONTIER (There is no top tether, therefore you may NOT use the latch system on your Frontier to install in this car).

SBP (Very hard install). You can fit two seats next to each other, but it does take ALOT of work.

Finally got it installed in Gmas 2001 Mazda MPV. 2nd row captains chair using LBP- this install was VERY easy! I reclined the seat first and installed it very tight then sat the seat back upright for a rock solid fit! I was very impressed at how easy it was compared to my 01 Blazer. I decided to keep it in her van!
