Which seat to get?

Ok. My DD is 13 months and around 20lbs and around 30". I've begun to think about moving her our of her Safe Seat and into a regular convertible. My DS is 2.5, around 26lbs and 34" (not exactly sure). He is currently FFing in a marathon. I am trying to decide if I want to get DS a new seat that will keep him harnessed even longer than the Marathon and give DD the MA or just buy DD a MA all of her own. Or buy DD something completely different.

There are a few things to take into consideration. The MA is a tight fit RFing. The front seats have to be pushed way foward and DH and I have long legs. I would like something that's easy to install and doesn't take up the entire car (I drive a 2004 Saturn VUE). The MA is excellent FFing. Super easy to install, easy to buckle in and fits rather nicely although it was tough getting it to fit properly on the seat. RFing, it just takes up a lot of space. Is there another seat that might fit better and still keep DD RFing or should I just suck it up and get another MA.

I am open to any and all suggestions.

How much of a recline did you have on your marathon rearfacing? Was it at 45 degrees or less? A child your daughter's age doesn't need to be relined anywhere near 45 degrees. Maybe try installing the seat rearfacing in your car with an recline closer to 30 degrees and see how that fits? It might also be good to place the marathon on the passenger side of the car instead of driver side so that it doesn't interfer as much with the driver's seat position.

If you can get the marathon to fit rearfacing, then get your son a seat that will last him longer. Here is a list of some other seats that might work

graco nautilus has a top harness position of 18.5"
radian has a top harness position of 18"
cosco apex has a top harness position of 17.5"
recaro signo has a top harness potion of 18"
recaro como has a top harness position of 19"
Britax Regent has a top harness position of 20"
evenflo triumph advance has a top harness position of 17.5"
safeguard has a top harness position of 19"

To put your marathon in perpective to these other seats, the marathon has a top harness position of 17" so it won't last as long height wise as some of the other seats above.

If you cannot fit the marathon rearfacing, maybe look into the cosco scenera or uptown. It should last rearfacing for a little while, and then whenever it is outgrown rearfacing, you can decide if it is time to go forward facing or invest in another seat that can allow you to rearface longer.
