What seat for my 2.5 yr-old son?

My ds is 2.5 years old, 37" and 31 pounds. I measured his torso height, and it is 14.5" (although he wasn't totally cooperative, so that figure might be off a little) We currently have him FF in a Roundabout that is about to expire. I need to buy something very soon, and I am paralyzed by all the information/options/prices out there.

So far, I've ruled out the Radian-- the narrow chest clip and lack of recline seems like too much discomfort.

So that leaves a Marathon (his big sister is in one and loves it, and so do I), the Regent (is it too big for him yet? and will it fit in our 200 Hyundai Sonata?), or the FPSVD (the price is really tempting!).

I feel like this would be better if I could just try the seats out in person, but we don't have a whole lot of baby stores around here.

How old is his sister? How big is she?
Any chance of moving her to a Regent and buying either a Marathon or FPSVD for him?

If you're only using it FF, I think that the FPSVD is a great option (sometimes the RF lockoffs on the MA are helpful).

Could you move your DD (if she is old and big enough) to the Regent and pass down the MA until it expires  If this is not possible, I think I would skip the MA and go straight for the Regent.

I agree-move big sister to a Regent and pass down her MA. :) A Regent will work for a child that size (I moved my dd to one at 38 inches and 35 pounds), but since you've got an older dd already harnessed I'd use the bigger seat for her.

It'll fit in the Sonata but you won't be able to fit three across.

Thanks everyone. I don't need three across (knock on wood, lol), so that's not a big deal. Older sister is 5 years old and 45" tall. She's informed me that she does not want to give up her seat, though. She's really a fan of her Marathon. I'll talk to her about it again tonight and see if I can elicit some more cooperation.

I had a kid attached to a seat too! I found when the time came he did give up his seat to baby brother.

You could get a madison regent maybe? Or just get ds the regent and when dd needs to move to the regent when she outgrows the MA they could switch then.

Good luck negotiations can be tough with little kids. Maybe take a field trip to BRU and try one out?

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I didn't realize I hadn't turned on email notification. oops.

Anyway, my dd has close to 2" left before her shoulders reach the top slots. She's mostly legs. She just has the Handsfull cover on her MA, and I could probably convince her to give up her seat, but it'll cost me, lol. She had already had to give up her beloved RA when little brother came around.

Look for a Regent in the Madison cover, I bet she'll agree to THAT (yellow with flowers and pink on the sides...)

:)

:yeahthat:

My thoughts exactly! I'll bet she'd love the new Madison cover. Maybe get a new cover for the Marathon so its like a "new" seat to him too.

See if she'll go for the girly Regent. That really would be the most reasonable option for you, especially since your son could still be RF in the MA.

You might want to consider getting a new cover for the MA before giving it to your son, as well, that way it's not as obviously your DD's old seat.

I agree- I think dd is gonna have to deal with it :) but honestly the madison cover is so gorgeous and the seat is soooo comfy-at her age she will love it. It is huge and she'll feel like a little queen in her throne!
But if you are totally just okay with her keeping the MA then I guess get a fpsvd for the little one and then buy a regent for big sis in a year or so-then when she outgrows that and he outgrows the fpsvd in a few years, he can have the regent and she can have a booster....

I'd get the Regent, with a cover you think DD will like. If she's willing to switch when the shiny new seat is installed :D, that's great, put her in the Regent, and DS in the MA. But if she doesn't want to switch, then put DS in the Regent until DD outgrows the MA, at which point you can switch them (DD in Regent, DS in MA).

Just my :twocents: .
