Torso height growth?

I know the official answer to this is kids vary and anything is normal. :p But I know there are quite a few around here who have kids with long torsos, so I'm hoping some of you might be able to shed some light for me...

Dd has been having a growth spurt, and I'm wondering if it's typical at this age to grow this much this fast or if I'm imagining some of it.

Since her dr. appt July 10th, she has gained well over a lb - our scale weighed slightly less than the dr. by maybe a couple ozs, and she was weighed without shoes on both occassions. And now it seems like she's shot up about 1/2 to 3/4" in torso in just the last few weeks.

Is that really possible? It seem like a heck of a lot of growth to be concentrated in her torso in that length of time. Granted her growth in the last year has been mostly in her legs, so she is due for a torso growth spurt, but can they really grow this fast at 4yrs old?

Yes, it's really possible. :p H seems to grow only in legs for almost a year (about two inches of growth), and then she grows the entire next inch all at once, all in the torso. Seriously--she spent a week at my mom's last month, right after school got out, and she came home a full inch taller...and it was all torso. I know, because I took pics of her in the Regent and measured her the last week of May, and measured her again (but no pics) the same week school got out. She came home from my mom's and I took new pics of her in the Regent, in my Focus (because I got it the same time I picked her up from my mom's), and lo and behold, she was a full inch taller in the torso.

Luckily, it seems like she only grows about an inch of torso height a year (an inch of torso height for every 3ish inches of overall height, on average), but it seems like it's always all at once like that.

On the weight part, she goes months, sometimes about a year, without gaining...and then there's been a year or two where she put on 10 pounds in a year. :p

Thanks Jenny. :) I knew your H was one of the kiddos around here with tall torsos, so I feel better knowing it's possible and I'm not just imagining dd losing practically an inch of growing room in the TF.

It's harder to tell exactly how much growing room is left in the TF, but she now is fitting the top slots nicely and isn't in that stage of "had to move up but the top ones seem so high." I figure she has about 1.5" left in it still - which should be plenty of time for the Nautilus to get here so I can decide if I want it or a Frontier. ;)

Now the curious part will be to see when this growth spurt ends. I don't want to be buying new summer clothes in August.

Jenny, are you sure your mom didn't hang H by her toes to sleep at night for that week?
(you know, to stre-e-e-e-tch out her spine?)
:D

Just kidding, of course, kids never fail to surprise us (I say, as Leah appears to have shrunk in her seats over the last six months, I'm wondering if gravity is already taking it's toll on her? lol)

LOL! It wouldn't surprise me. Maybe that's her discipline technique? She always has to rub it in that H behaves sooo well at her house.
