Question To replace or not to replace?

WWYD?

This morning I was in a car accident. I was the only passenger in my car and walked away without injury. My car, however, was not as lucky as I was. The accident happened at a fairly slow speed – my car was stopped and another car was backing out of their parking spot. I saw the car coming but there wasn’t much I could do but lay on the horn. The car that hit my had a trailer hitch attached, which is what hit my rear-passenger door and did all the damage. I haven’t brought it into a body shop yet, but I’m fairly certain the whole door will need to be replaced. The door doesn’t open properly but I believe this is because it’s dented, not because of any damage of the car frame. The door that was hit was right next to a Graco Nautilus, no question this seat will be replaced. On the side opposite of the point of impact is a Britax Roundabout. Here’s where I’m not sure what to do. Britax says it’s okay to use the seat after a minor accident and NHTSA backs this up. Would you feel safe continuing to use this seat? I’m not yet sure if the insurance will cover the cost of the seat.. I’m still waiting to hear back from the other driver (who was at fault). I’m pretty bummed, this was a brand new car seat. I installed it two days ago and haven’t even had a chance to use it yet!

Attached is a photo of the damage.

The vehicle was able to be driven away from the crash site; AND
The vehicle door nearest the child restraint was undamaged; AND
There were no injuries to any of the vehicle occupants; AND
The air bags (if present) did not deploy; AND
There is no visible damage to the child seat.

From your description of the incident it sounds like a minor crash to me. If you don't have any injuries turn up tomorrow morning I would be okay using it.

I haven't had a chance to look over the seats well as the accident happened on my way into work. But the insurance company got back to me and said they'll replace both the seats.. no questions asked. Since they're willing to replace the Britax, I'm going to take them up on it. Thanks for the feedback!
