Tiny 12 month old niece needs new seat

My niece is 12 months and she is a peanut. She weighs 16 pounds, wears 6 month bottoms and 9 months tops. I dont know her exact stats other than that. She is currently in her 4 year old brothers myride and it does not install right in my sisters jeep. The vehicle seat is so squishy that the seat just wont get a good install. I was able to easily push the seat onto its side. My sisters boyfriend against a new seat but if she could find one thats around $100 she might be able to convince him to get it. I was thinking a roundabout just for the fact that it can tether rear facing and I was hoping that would help get a better install. Is there a seat that could work better than the one she is in? She drives an older jeep cherokee.

Has your sister taken the vehicle and car seat to a CPST for help? If squishy seats is the problem, then a new seat might not be the fix. Here is a helpful thread to look for CPST's who are members of car-seat.org, and there is a link in the first post of that thread where you can search all publicly available CPST's.

A roundabout is going to be more than $100, and you need to have a good installation before using the top tether. So although it would probably work fine in that vehicle, it might not solve the problems.

I was hoping she could find one on sale...she has not had the seat checked. It really does need to get replaced, its in kinda rough shape. She didn't even have the locking clip on it until I noticed that her seat belts dont lock and told her to find it. She really needs a newer car, the seats are just totally worn out (its porbably at least an early 90's) which is probably why they are so squishy. Whats even scarier is that she drove my nephew around for 3 years in that seat not realizing it need the locking clip

I can tell you a trick for installing a Rfing My Ride with a locking clip that really helps when you have hard to get tight enough installs.

Grab a Snugride 22 base (if you don't have one "borrow" one from BRU), and install that with the locking clip. Since it's easier to kneel on and use both hands, you'll be able to get that last little bit of tightness out.

Then unbuckle the seatbelt, leaving the locking clip in place. Thread the belt/LC through the My Ride rfing belt path and turn around to sit your rear in the seat with both legs on one side. Reach between your legs so you can use both hands, Line the buckle up and rock/bounce until you can get it buckled.

Before trying a locking clip, double-check the seatbelt situation. I could be wrong, but I have it in my head that some Jeeps have locking latchplates.
