Suggestions on Next Seat

My son will be 2 soon and is VERY tall for his age. He is still rear facing in a Chicco Nextfit and will be at least through his 2nd birthday. I know it's recommended to rear face even longer, we will see....I have heard a lot of reviews that the Nextfit isn't always a comfy seat front facing and I am committed to keeping my son harnessed at least through age 5. There are a lot of deals heading into Christmas and I may try to get a good deal on our next car seat. Is the Britax Frontier our best bet? What are other options that have higher height limits? My son has always been around the 90th % for height and has surpassed 35" already at only 21 months of age. We are actually mainly buying 3t clothes for fall/winter. We foster and plan to pass down the Nextfit to our next foster child for use while with us (we also have an infant seat as well). We have a 2016 Ford Escape and have had no issues with seats not fitting well. I wasn't a huge fan of our secondary seat, Britax Advocate ClickTight and a part of me would like to go with a brand other than Britax but I keep seeing the Frontier come up for taller kiddos. Budget isn't an issue. Any suggestions?? Any rumors of newer seats coming out this fall/early 2017 I should hold out for?? I wish Chicco would come out with a seat similar to Frontier....I love Chicco products :)

Wow, he is tall! I will say my 4.8 yr old who is 41 inches is perfectly happy in her Next Fit in my husband's car and she is very opinionated! If you like the seat I would just stick with it until he does actually outgrow it and then see what is out there if he is not ready to booster. I think a lot has to do with if you can get the Next Fit not overly reclined when FF.....I think flatter seats help a lot and make sure to set the recline to the most upright.

The Pioneer and Frontier and Pinnacle are the tallest. I'd wait and see how he grows though. Even a tall kid may make it well past 2 years rf in a Nextfit and I wouldn't want to waste lifespan. :)

Not an urgent need. We are officially open for another placement and really would only take on an under 6 month old. We want to keep our son the oldest, etc. I have an infant seat so we would be set for the short term. I just may want to take advantage of a good deal if I come across one. If some kids are fine and have no complaints front facing in the nextfit I'm not opposed to keeping him in that seat. Not sure it'll get us to booster age though so I am just thinking down the road. In all likely hood we'll have a placement this fall and by spring that child will need a convertible seat so I am just thinking when the times comes to buy another seat I want one that will for sure get my son to booster age and then 2nd child can take over nextfit. My son was out of his infant seat at 6 months so we could have a similar scenario with #2 and need another convertible. Not going to buy anyhow right off but just planning for what may fit our needs best.

So kinda a follow up....do the Diono seats get taller kids to booster age?? I know they are one if the more narrow options. We have 2.5 years left on our lease (2016 Escape) and I occasionally have my niece who is 4. I am just thinking when I do buy another seat I should buy something that can potentially work in a 3 across scenario if needed....also we will be flying when my son is 2.5/3.... so we would need a seat we can fly with and use on vacation. Would a Diono fit my need? Or what other seats should I consider? I just need something that'll get my tall son to booster age and potentially work in a 3 across in an Escape. (Obviously in a 3 across I may need all new seats....).

My tall long-torso kids outgrew them by height a year before they were ready for even part-time booster training, and two plus years before they were ready for full time boosters.

For what you want the Defender may work?
