Strap height help!

My 7 week old is in a hand me down Graco SafeRide. I really don't like it, but that's besides the point. There's only two strap positions; the lower one is real low but the top one is a smidge higher that her shoulders. It's supposed to be lower rather than higher when RF, right?

It's ok for little ones if they are below the bottom slots by a bit, because the hip straps will hold them down in the seat, and there is lots of shell above their heads so they won't ramp up and out of the seat. Plus, little babies don't weigh enough to tip the seat back very far in a crash, anyway. You can roll up a washcloth and put it between the crotch buckle and her body to keep her a little more upright/less slouchy and that might put her shoulders up against the top slots, though, if you like. Yeah, that old Snugride 22 isn't the best design for little babies...but the risks are so low there's no need to worry :)

I would keep it on the lowest ones until his/her shoulders are even with the top slots. I'm sure the techs can better answer this question, but I would go with at or below, not above. If you mean that the lowest slots are still above the shoulders, than I'm not sure what you should do other than trying a different seat.

First off, do you know the date of manufacture? I am asking because I am pretty sure all of the newer snug rides have more than two harness positions, at least I am pretty sure the one I had that was manufactured in 05 did, but I could be wrong. As for slot position, too low is not a safety concern rf, but too high is, so unless the straps are falling off of his shoulders you need to stay on the lower slots.
