My daughter is 6mo old and I am currently searching for a stage 2 carseat that she can stay in until she's about 65-70 lbs.
There are tons of brands and I'm having a hard time picking one.
Help!!
You are looking for what is called a "convertible carseat" then, one that can be installed rear facing or forward facing. It's best to look for a seat that will allow her to rearface to a minimum of age 2, preferably closer to 3. Almost all of the seats that have high weight maximums, such as 50-70 lbs, will allow her to rearface to age 2, as long as she's not in the 80-100th percentiles or super long torsoed. If she is, you'll want to look at the Diono Radian, Safety First Complete Air, Maxi Cosi Pria, Graco Size4Me 70, or even the Graco My Ride (on sale at Target right now for a GREAT price of $120). No matter what the upper weight limit is, most kids will outgrow them by height around 50 lbs, give or take a few.
But if you get one with the upper weight limit of 50-70 lbs, you may be able to skip buying a combination seat (which is one that is forward facing harnessed and can be switched to a highback booster later) and go straight to a highback booster seat.
What are the features that matter the most to you? What don't you like about your current infant seat and which one is it? How long is she and how much does she weigh? All of those things will help us guide you and narrow down your choices.
