Scenara VS Roundabout

My almost 2.5 year old is coming very close to outgrowing her Roundabout. She's coming pretty close to having less than 1" of shell left. I have an Alpha Omega Elite that I can put her in, but I noticed that when installed in the 3rd row, it hangs over the seat (I know that in big sis' Nautilus that's a no-no); does the same rule apply for the AOE?

Since I just purchased the Nautilus and will most likely have to buy a new infant seat, my Dh will croak if I buy another pricey seat (I'd really love a Radian 65 or another Nauti). I know the Scenara is not too pricey and is a good seat, but is the shell taller then a Roundabout?

Is she RF or FF?

If she is FF, the Scenera is not going to provide you very much more time than the Roundabout.

Be sure to check your AOE to make sure that the top harness position doesn't say "For booster use only."

The AOE, Roundabout and the Scenera are pretty close to the same height so neither the AOE or the scenera are going to give you a ton more time.

How much does she weigh?

U mean for RFing? My DD1 just got too close to the top of the shell in her RA, but has a lil room in her Scenera. Not sure how much, but enuf that I switched the Scenera into the car we use most often, so she can RF more often than FF.

If she's rear facing a Scenera will get her a little more room. The AOE can hang over the edge, as long as 80% of the base is on the seat. Plus you can remove the base and make it a little smaller of a footprint. It will last her longer rear facing.

If she's forward facing then her head can go over the top of the shell to the level of her ears.

She is FF. She's not at the top slots in the AOE yet, but I do know that the top position is for booster only.

She weighs 27 pounds.

The majority of the AOE is on the seat, so that's good to know. I have already removed the base on it to make it a little slimmer.

So she can stay in her Roundabout until the shell is level with her ears? I didn't know that! I'd love to keep her in her Roundabout if possible.

Thanks so much for all of the help. I'm glad I didn't go out and buy the Scenara now.

Rear facing seats are outgrown by height when there is less than one inch of seat shell above the child's head. The harness should be at or below the shoulders.

Forward facing seats are outgrown by height when the tips of the ears are above the seat shell OR the shoulders are above the top (allowable) harness slot.

At only 29 lbs, I'd suggest turning your DD rear facing. Your AOE has a 35 lb RF weight limit, and a slightly taller shell than the Roundabout.

Here is my DD shortly before outgrowing the RA RF around 18 mos:

And here she is just before outgrowing her Touriva (precurser to the Scenera) a year later:

ANY properly-used rear facing seat is safer than ANY properly used forward facing seat. She's safer RF in the AOE than FF in the RA.

I know, now, that she'd be safer riding RF. Unfortunately, I don't think it's doable. With the new baby coming, my oldest DD and the baby will ride in the middle row of seats; I know that my 2 year old will torment the baby. So she's been "banned" to the 3rd row and I don't think I'd ever be able to get her into her car seat if she was RF. If I didn't watch another child during the week, I'd just put all 3 kiddos in the middle row and turn her RF again.
