I bought two marathons yesterday in Saskatchean and was charged 5%gst and 5% pst. Then today I found the cover I wanted on amazon.ca and so I ordered them. I paid and got the total and was not charged pst??

Does anyone know if I will be charged later by amazon or whether toysrus is wrong?

I'm not sure of the answer, and I"m not sure how it works in Canada, but I know in the US whether something is taxable and in what way can depend on where the warehouse is and whether there is a physical store present in the state the person lives in.

I wonder if there is something similar in Canada?

It's based on province of delivery. Because you purchased the seats in an actual STORE in SK, they assume SK use and PST is charged (this applies to everything applicable purchased in SK). But when you bought from Amazon, assumably it being shipped to Alberta (since AB is the only province that doesn't have PST), then PST doesn't apply because it is being delivered to Alberta.

If you don't live in Alberta, then it's possible that car seat covers aren't PST applicable. I don't know the rules for SK's PST, all I know is that I hate it when I have to buy something there, especially fuel!! But ToysRUs isn't wrong to charge PST in SK.

Ok, I don't really know how to explain it, but basically, if you live in a province that has GST and PST and order something online from a different province, you only have to pay the GST portion of the taxes. If, however, you live in a province that has HST (GST and PST are 'harmonized' as one tax), you pay HST on anything you order from any province.

I'm sure someone else could explain it better, but that's the gist of it.

We have hst in bc but car seats are still pay exempt so we only pay the gst portion of the hst. It can get confusing. Bottom line if they didn't charge you they won't come back for it later. It is possible that you weren't supposed to pay it at bru and they did anyways?
