My husband has a 99 f250 power stroke diesel extended cab that we are currently searching for a convertible car seat that will fit his narrow back seat. Our son is 8 months old 21 lbs and 28 inches long. My problem is I'm not familiar enough about different car seats for different vehicles to know which is appropriate to be able to fit. And if the convertible seats can hang off the edge of the back seat, etc. We currently have a new baby on the way and are on a rather tight budget. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hello! It seems your post was overlooked, my apologies!

Congratulations on the pending new addition!

At 8 months your child should be rear facing, and for as long as possible, but to a recommended minimum of two years old.

Here is a great post from our sister site, CarSeatBlog.com, with some information on the topic:

A few seats to look at which are compact and usually last children until ~2 rear facing:

*Evenflo Triumph
*Cosco Scenera
*Safety First OnSide Air Protect (a cushier Scenera with extra side impact protection)
*Evenflo SureRide (This is a favorite! It is about $100 and will last a long time both rear facing and forward facing as it has one of the tallest harnesses on the market)
*Britax Marathon

We have a '97 F250 that just has a 3rd door. I've used a Britax Roundabout 55 and Marathon 70 behind the passenger's seat. I can fit others in the middle with the front armrest folded down. They just fit right between the front seats.
