researching new car seat/booster options

Well I found this site so useful when I first had my daughter almost 3 years ago and settled on a RA.

Now we are starting to research booster / car seat options now that she will be approaching her limits on the RA.

Currently she is 38" and 30lbs. I have two RA one expires 6/10 and I want to get a head start on some options.

So lets hear it.... what seats are the best? I am interested more in booster & booster/harness combo.

Thanks in advance!!!

Is she RFing or FFing? At her weight she could be RFing still, but then again at around age three that becomes a parental choice on wheather or not to RF. RFing is a much safer option, but especially for children under the age of three.

You will want to keep her harnessed until she is mature enough to sit properly each and every time and of course have the seat belt fit her properly. This happens usually after the age of five, sometimes older as it just depends on the child.

You have almost a year, correct, before the RAs expire? Who knows what type of cool seat there is out then, but below there are FF only seats that convert to boosters.

That said there is the Britax Frontier which makes one awesome booster from what I have read and heard from other people. It's top harness slots are about 18" and it is weighted up to 80lbs, but unless your child is short and stocky there is really no way a child would get to 80lbs harnessed in this seat. One of the car-seat.org sponsor's is having a sale on Britax right now, take a look at the shopping and deal's forum ;)

There is also the Graco Nautilus, it has very similar top harness slots to the Britax Frontier, weighted to 65lbs instead of 80lbs. Does not make the *best* high back booster but a pretty decent no-back booster. These retail for around $150, which will be around $100 cheaper than the Britax Frontier.

Also the Apex65 which harnesses to 65lbs, needs head-rest behind it and from what I gather does not make such a great booster.

At not-yet-3 and 30 pounds, a belt-positioning booster is not a very good option. The Graco Nautilus and Britax Frontier are two seats that will allow you to harness her now and booster her when she is older and larger.

Yes I guess I should have been more clear on that.. I am NOT planning on just a booster now but was thinking of the seats that harness now and booster later.

I do have a year but I figured why not scope out things now.. this website has such great views and input! I don't think I am going to jump on anything right away because I do have time but just throwing it out there to see what everyone else is using/ recomending

She is currently FF (center row of a Toyota Tundra), I did RF until she was a little over 2.
