Looking for a convertible seat for the in-laws car, for occasional use only. They will soon be getting a Ford Fusion Hybrid so I don't know how big that is. DS is currently about 14-15 lbs and is 8 months so we will need it RF for now, but they'd also like to use the seat for another grandchild (12 months) and keep it for a few years when the kids are FF. Any recs?

Rec for inexpensive but safe convertible seat?

Both kids are rear facing, right? They should rear face to at least two, preferably older.
Depending on budget, I'd look at the Cosco Apt, Safety 1st onSide Air, Evenflo Tribute, Graco My Ride, Evenflo Triumph 65. The Triumph 65 might be one they like the most from a usability standpoint between two kids. It's also the tallest and has the highest top slots. So it'll last a while. But it's more expensive up front.
They're all safe, so no worries there.

I'm not a tech but imo I think the Triumph might be a good choice. Its easy to install and the in laws will not have to re thread the harness all the the time. I have a Tribute for my kids grandma to use. I really like the seat as a budget seat, but it is tricky at times for me to tighten then harness.
