Rear facing in middle with fold down arm rest/cup holder

I was told that you cant rear face against a seat that a section folds out i.e. an arm rest or cup holder section.

Is this true? We just installed a radian rxt in the middle seat of a 2013 pilot (there are latch available for the middle seat). It does have a section that folds out of the middle for the side passengers to use. Is this a safe install (it's rock solid)?

Does it state anything in your vehicle manual?

I think the consensus is, if the rear facing seat prevents it from flipping down (at all), then it is ok. But if the tray can come down any, best to not install a rear facing seat there.

There is no specific limitation on it -- unless your vehicle manual says not to. In the Canadian curriculum there is only a caution to be aware of it. If the pivot point of the arm rest is high enough that when the seat is installed it can still fold a little or a lot (it's a judgment call) then I wouldn't like a RF seat there. Forward facing should be just fine though. If you're unsure post a picture of the seat installed with the armrest flipped as much as it will go and we can give our opinions if you'd like!
