I posted in this thread about my a problem with my vehicle earlier this week: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=259269
I don't know what to do. Keep driving it because maybe it was just a one time fluke occurrence even though I don't feel as safe driving this because of what happened? I can't help but think about the uncertainty as to whether this might happen again judging by other complaints on the NHTSA site, which is why DH and I are considering a new vehicle. Our biggest fear is it happening again and the possibility that next time two of the kids are riding with us. I don't even want to think about something happening to them!
The problem is, I don't know what I want. I feel like my choices are limited for a similar sized SUV that is still within our budget for a car payment and while I have thought about going back to a sedan, I wonder if I'd miss my SUV.
I would be the primary driver of this vehicle with my work commute only being 11 miles one way, all on city streets, no freeway. It would also be the vehicle DH and I drive on the weekends to run errands, go places, etc. When we do have the kids, it's usually only two kids at a time and if for some reason we ended up with all four grandkids and had to drive them, my brother would have no issue with trading cars with me for the day (he has a Sienna). The seats I would have in the car would be two FR90's or one FR90 and one Graco Argos.
If I did go back to a four door sedan, what should I look at? I really like the Nissan Altima, the VW Passat, and the Honda Accord. I also wonder if I could be perfectly fine in something smaller that would be much less expensive and get better gas mileage, like a Honda Civic.
Any suggestions on how I can narrow down my choices and figure out what would work best? Or should I just keep my current vehicle, which I really like aside from what happened to me earlier this week but also not feeling completely safe driving it?
