Radian and Nautilus adjustment

So...I tried out a Radian before I bought a seat and here's what I found.

I was checking out a friends seat and her DS is 5, not sure of height or weight, but he's pretty thin. She has a problem with the harness adjustment strap being too short. When she has to put her DS in the seat, because it is too short, there is no way to loosen the strap before putting him in. If he one day decides to get chubby, then there will be no room to loosen the harness to fit him.

Secondly, I just bought the Nautilus yesterday and my son is in the second from the bottom slot and there's only about 6 inches of adjustment. Each time we have to move the slot up, that will get shorter. I'm not even sure it will even fit him when he get's to the top slot.

For those that have these too seats....Is there anyway around this? Can you show me pics of your older child and how much adjustment is left? As anyone had a problem with this?

Even though the Nautilus harness had diffent slots since it routes into the slots, then up and over the red roller things, and then back down.... when you change the slots the harness doesnt loose much.
You basically have the same amount of harness no matter what slots its run through.
Really, the only you would loose in extra adjuster strap is how much wider the child gets.

Here is a picture of the harness completely adjusted out in the TOP slots... gotta love the model.. and sorry for the glare.

-edited to add... both harness straps are the same length. The harness is NOT one long strap. Each strap ends at the bottom section. It just looks that way because I only have 2 hands! :)

and a picture of the back side routed through the top slots:

No matter what slots its in you have to route it UP and OVER the red bars...

I know that seems weird & I hope I worded it in a way that makes sence.

edited again... i missed the part where you said you OWN one... go play with it & you will get a better understanding of what i'm trying to say. ;þ

actually, you may get MORE room as you move them up... the way it tracks up and over those red pieces makes you use a lot more harness than you normally would on the bottom slots... but I like that the harness adjuster strap doesn't drag on the ground like so many others.

on the Radian... if her daughter is close to outgrowing it in height, that may be it, otherwise, sounds like she's got one of the "short harness" ones... have her contact Sunshine kids and they'll replace the seat.
