Radian + 2012 ody

OK. I have read mixed things about getting a radian on that jump seat. Some say it works, some say it does not. Video says rotation at top but tight below. I ordered the radian hoping for the best. I can't get the radian tight in that spot for anything. The bight isn't where it should be so the little feet have no where to go. I assume you're NOT supposed to tip the radian to get the feet in the bight but I tried it both ways to see and neither way feels satisfactory.

I really like the height and sleekness and color of the seat so I put it in a captain's chair and I really don't feel like it's good in there, either. If I get to rocking it it almost feels like it is loosening itself? Is this the superlatch issue that they blamed on vehicle incompatability?

Can anyone who has successfully RF a radian in a 2012 ody, either jump seat or captain's chair, please give me some tips??

I do not have an angle adjuster although as I understand it that is not meant to fix a bad install so if I can't get it installed without that there is no sense installing with.

There is a car seat tech who works with EMS here so I can go get it looked at but the more info I have on this car + this seat the better. I want to know EVERYTHING before I go in. I just can't can't seem to find a definitive answer on how it works with that middle seat. Maybe there isn't one? (I have a classic marathon in that spot and that is not supposed to work but it is SOLID)

I'm surprised I can't get it to work in the captain's chair though. Are these seats THAT persnickety?

I have leather interior if that matters.

I know I can get an awesome install with the nextfit in the captain's chair so that's my fall back long term solution but I do feel like the openness of the radian will be more comfortable long term.

I am also unhappy with the rf install in the jump seat and I also tried with aa. In the capt chair I had no problem. I do like to recline the vehicle seat about halfway when I install and then put it up afterward. When I tighten the latch, I lean over the back of the radian and push in and down while I pull the latch strap tail toward myself. I used the aa when I put it in capt chair so idk if that might make a difference on the install. Fwiw, I have radians in a 2007 and a 2012 and I have never experienced that loosening problem, even with the old strap. Both vehicles also have leather so I don't think that should pose a problem.

I really can't tell it it is loosening or not. It gets easier the longer I rock but I don't know if I can pull the strap any tighter in the end. Maybe I can find a piece of chalk and make a small mark on the strap and see if it moves.

Are you happy with how it fits FF in the jump seat or haven't you tried?

Yeah me neither. My kids' schools were on strike and they FINALLY go back tomorrow so I might have some more downtime to play with things. I'm going to test this seat out to the hilt before giving up. I really like it... just wish it fit in the jump seat. A long lasting RF car seat that fit there would make up for Honda giving up the ability to move the captain's chair over.

I can get what seems like a good install with the radian RFing in the center 2nd row...but it is a false good install. When you put the feet between the hinges of the seat then it wedges it in for you... and to me that isn't acceptable. I haven't ever really gotten a great install with it RFing there.

I have used it ffing in the center and don't really remember having any issue there. I have also used it RFing in the captains chairs and it was fine except it was on the border of being over reclined. I was using the radian rfing there before the AA came out. I haven't tried it with the AA.

I can get mine in tight enough in the captain's chair, but I have to sit in the seat and tug with all my might to get it that way. I did recently try it again in the middle seat and I deemed it acceptable for one leg of a trip we recently took, but I'm not comfortable with it in the middle all the time. The Radian was a great fit in our previous car and I miss that. If I'd bought it just to put in the Ody I would've exchanged it for something else. Since we have it, I'm making it work. It really is so easy to load a rfing kid into a Radian. I'm not sure I could get used to something with higher sides. Radian is the only rfing convertible I've ever used. Anyway, I struggle with ours, too, but I seem to have won the battle for now!

I had one RF in the captain's chair. It was great. I think I did seatbelt for that one.
I know FF I got much better installs with latch, though, and after she hit 40 lbs. we went to a booster in that seat b/c the seatbelt install FF (it was the jumpseat one) didn't seem all that great. Maybe not terrible...just not great like I had with latch.

I had a RF radian in my 12 oddy for over a year. I tipped the seat back, installed the radian, tightened the heck out of it and then I put the vehicle seat back up. I did find that using the angle adjuster as the child got heavier made for a much better install over time. Just lean the vehicle seat back first (recline) and then after you have it in tight, make the vehicle seat upright.
Hope this helps!

You're supposed to slide the angle adjuster after it's actually installed right? I see it's finally back in stock woo hoo! I will try the seat back tipping thing. I haven't actually gotten out to play with seats again. Right now I have a nextfit and radian sitting in my front room and need to decide which to keep. I really think the radian will be best long term but the nextfit is just so cozy and roomy and squishy...

Are the side wings at the butt (where the cup holder goes) supposed to lock in place in any way? They move in and out so easy it is hard to get a good grip and shake the seat.

I am really hating on my honda right now. If they had just made a bucket seat that fills that space when the outside seats are in wide mode, it would have been so much more useful.

You need to install the radian with the aa in place. I actually can't slide it under the radian if I already have a good install. Neither will you be able to slide it out once its installed.

The "butt wings" don't lock, they just sort of click but can be easily moved by a child getting in or out.

I attached the seat with the latch system, sort of tightened it, slid the angle adjuster under the seat and then went to town on tightening it all the way. Hope this helps.

I have to update in case someone thinks omg it won't work in there at all!!!

It DOES work in the captain's chair. The recline and then replace seat back trick helped a lot.

Now I have my kids climbing all over it and a nextfit and long term I do think the radian is going to be the better choice. But holy cow do I love that nextfit.

Both really awesome seats. Neither works in that middle spot.
